Hadleigh playing their second home game of the season were looking to put Saturday's defeat behind them, whilst FC Clacton arrived with a point in the bag following their draw at Wroxham.
Hadleigh 's Ben Deacon had the first chance of the match, but Rutherford collected well in the wet conditions as the late afternoon rain continued.
Hadleigh continued to press , with Clacton's Lee Peacock clearing well from Ben Deacon, before in Clacton's first attack, Liam Morley's pass found Ray Turner but his deft pass looking for Morley was cleared.
Hadleigh broke on 13 minutes, when Chris Leys found Ben Garnham his neat pass found Warren Taylor-Holt, who's return ball to Garnham who's shot in was deflected for a corner with Kris Rose shooting wide.
On 14 minutes Clacton attacked down the right with Kevin Coyle's gross finding Ben Connell to control and fire wide.
Clacton took a surprise lead on 22 minutes, when after being awarded a free kick, they caught Hadleigh's defence fair and square on the hop , with what must have been a practise ground move, the free kick was lobbed over the wall by Kevin Coyle for Sean Hillier to beat the static Hadleigh to slot home past the diving Aaron Benstead.
Hadleigh then launched attack after attack, but solid and at times fortunate defending and excellent goalkeeping by Rutherford kept Hadleigh at bay.
Just before half time Hadleigh's Ben Deacon saw a shot in cleared, fortune saw the ball come back to him , but his shot in was wide.

Clacton forced an early corner in the second half , which Hadleigh cleared. At the other end a Hadleigh cross in found Taylor-Holt to shot wide.
Hadleigh's Taylor -Holt was brought down under a heavy challenge, with Simon Hyde taking the free kick , Clacton's defence cleared the danger for a corner.
Hadleigh continued to push forward looking for the equaliser, Clacton at times looked dangerous on the break , but Hadleigh's defence were coping well, with keeper Aaron Benstead having little to do, but save well from a Ray Turner shot .
Hadleigh's Ben Deacon shot through the Clacton defence was just wide, before Hadleigh's Craig Payne won the ball in a challenge, to control and shot but Rutherford gathered well.
A Simon Hyde cross ball in found Ben Deacon who's header was cleared only as far as Olllie Canfer with his ball back in finding Ben Deacon to header wide.
Hadleigh equalised on 79 minutes when a neat free kick by Craig Payne found Mark Powling to header in with the ball hitting the far post to go in past the diving Rutherford.
Clacton then pushed forward, with keeper Aaron Benstead clearing a dangerous ball at the second attempt, from Karl Andrade. Clacton Lee Peacock then made a solo run his through ball found Turner with his shot cleared.
Clacton sub Louie Newland set up Ray Turner with his first touch of the ball , Turner's shot being saved by Benstead.
Hadleigh's Craig Payne then saw a shot go agonisingly wide deep in stoppage time as Hadleigh looked for the winner.
