Experienced left-back Shane Wardley has agreed to join Hadleigh Utd after spending the last three weeks training with the club.
The 32 year old has been in talks with several clubs over the summer after leaving Leiston at the end of last season. The former Southend Utd player had spoken with Needham Market and AFC Sudbury but failed to agree a deal with either club.
Hadleigh manager Stuart Crawford is pleased to have Wardley at the club but admitted he never expected to sign him. " Since the season ended we have kept an eye on what Shane was doing. I expected him to join a Ryman League side but it never happened. I know there are several players now considering the options of Ryman vs Thurlow Nunn level as with work and family commitments the deal needs to be right for the player to offer that level of time to football. When your young and have no ties it's different but as you get older players have to weight it all up. Shane sees the potential at Hadleigh and has joined us after turning down better offers from the Thurlow Nunn League."
